Breaking News: San Antonio's Historic Daylight Saving Time Shift

Central Time Zone to Observe Daylight Saving Time in 2023

Start and End Dates Announced

The city of San Antonio, Texas, will officially transition to Daylight Saving Time (DST) starting in 2023, according to a recent announcement by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). This marks a significant change for San Antonio and the surrounding Bexar County, which have traditionally observed Central Standard Time (CST) year-round.

The new DST schedule for San Antonio will be as follows:

  • Start: Sunday, March 12, 2023 at 2:00 AM CST
  • End: Sunday, November 5, 2023 at 2:00 AM CST

During the DST period, San Antonio's clocks will be set one hour ahead of CST, resulting in more daylight hours in the evening. This change aims to maximize sunlight exposure during the warmer months, potentially reducing energy consumption and promoting outdoor activities.

The implementation of DST in San Antonio has been a subject of debate in recent years, with some residents expressing concerns about the potential impact on their sleep schedules and daily routines. However, NIST has emphasized the benefits of DST in terms of energy savings and increased safety during evening hours.
